Verona Trip

I have just got back from a holiday to Italy, whilst I was there I took some pictures that would inspire me for my first brief when I get back to Uni in a couple of weeks, our first project is design realisation. Where we will ultimately create a trend book from our research.

Italian cobbled paths

Variety of Colours

Various sized pebbles/ Cobbles

This was the prettiest looking breakfast I have ever had!

Cappucino with perfect star shaped chocolate sprinkles
and Chocolate croissant. What more could a girl ask for when you

get served this on holiday in Italy! more reasons to get up

bright and early.

Italian Architecture- Lots of the buildings in Verona had paintings on them

I kept getting inspired by all the shutters and balconys as they

reminded me of pleats and stripes.

Fashion forward thinking!

Romeo and Juliet's Balcony

This was a real experience to see this as I have lost count of

how many times I have heard about it.

Intersisciplinary- Over!!

Evaluation

Having completed my Interdisciplinary module I now feel I have gained further understanding about new techniques such as weaving, as I was unsure how to weave properly prior to this module. I now realise that this is a very easy technique and it can look very creative and effective when you just play around and experiment with it. I have tried to respond a lot more to images by sampling further and been more creative which I did lack in creativity in some other modules. I feel that initially it took me quite a while to gain some inspiration for my work, however I now realise that I should have focussed more on my phrase (A form resulting from any such change) rather than my technique at the beginning of the module because I know that I was focussing too much on the weaving aspect of my work more than anything else which ultimately effected my work in the beginning. I then had the idea of looking into how skin changes its form which was really interesting as I created many samples that reflected wrinkly skin and other things such as blood vessels. I kept trying to create something new each time so that I could Vary my Ideas, I found that my way of working with brainstorms helped me to a great extent as I quickly noted down anything that came to mind, I also did the same with my designs by drawing them down quickly which was useful and a better way of working because previously i could often find myself spending quite a lot of time thinking about designs rather than putting them down onto paper. From my first year I have learnt a variety of new techniques, and I now see myself been more confident in the work that I produce. I understand that it is a lot better and more effective to communicate your ideas and responses through drawings and samples rather than writing, as this method is a lot more interesting because you can see whether things work together which can be seen in front of you and also you can produce them in a variety of scales.

My burnt and distressed Maxi!!

This was the first stage of making my maxi skirt, I was creating my own fabric by weaving chiffon and organza together, I then Burnt into the fabric then distressed it to make it meet the requirements of my brief which was to choose 3 phrases, my chosen ones were:
  1. A form reulting from any such change
  2. Textiles- my discipline
  3. Weave- My technique

Hand in and Photoshoot!!

It was such a huge relief handing all my Interdisciplinary work in this morning. I then had something to look forward to in the afternoon, which was helping out with my third years photoshoot, which I was really excited about because I had really enjoyed my photography elective which was in Feb. So I felt that from this I could learn a whole new bunch of things. It was really rewarding contributing to the shoot. I was even asked to help with styling, and was also put in charge of hair and make up, which was great!!

Its Confetti Time!!!

Im really excited after working with my third year today. I was given loads of tasks such as going to town again to buy coloured paper and ribbon, I then took pictures of her toilles before moving onto the idea of her shoot which is on friday which im really looking forward to. The aim for the shoot is to make it really colourful and circus like. I was shown images that she had collected for inspiration for her shoot. I loved the idea of using confetti I just hope it turns out ok. To make the confetti i shredded lots of paper like little children do when they make pictures at school. Fingers crossed i chose the right colours.

Toilles

Here are some images i took for my third year. These are her toilles for her collection that she has made. Some are only partly made

My third years inspiration for her collection

Leah Olivia Stone

The concept for my collection is determined by a variety of influences. The first was the contemporary installation art of Tara Donovan. Donovan creates huge biomorphic forms out of ordinary objects (buttons, pencils, straws). The work Donovan creates appears to be a living, organic mass that is growing and spreading so I used appliqué to create structures that appear to be growing on the garment. When researching into the building up off pieces to create organic forms I came across the appearance of scales I nature. I also noticed that samurai armour was similar to scales in nature in that it intended to protect and yet still allow movement. I was also influenced by a trip to the digital design exhibit ‘De:code’ at the V&A which explored the latest developments in digital and interactive design. The colours of the digitalised light were what inspired my colour palette. The scales and digital artwork also informed my fabric print design.

Second session with 3rd years

Today was my second day with my third year and thankfully the third year I was originally meant to be working with was here. I was pleased, and in some respects I felt that I was at some advantage as I was gaining an insight into more than one persons work.

My Third year is called Leah, she was really friendly and bubbly which is always a positive when you are meeting somone new because you never know what to expect, and personally I always feel really shy at first but hey most people are like this. But anyway I got set a variety of new tasks today.

Tasks....

Morning Tasks:
  • I began the day by going to Leeds Market and Samuel Taylors to buy 4M lining fabric. Leah had asked for my own opinion on what I would feel would work best for her collection, there was a choice of either just a plain black polyester lining or a shimery dark metallic grey. I personally felt that the grey would work better as it would create more interest to her garments by using a different coloured lining fabric. So we went ahead with that. I was pleased as she agreed with what I had said.
  • When arriving back at college we spoke through the following tasks for the afternoon. Leah briefly spoke to me about her collection which features structured and futuristic elements such as large shoulders, and areas that stick out on the hips and waist. I was intrigued to see some of the garments in order to see how she had created such structure.

Afternoon:

  • During the afternoon session I did some pattern cutting. Cutting out the linings for some of her garments out of the fabric I had bought in the morning. At first i was really anxious because I didnt want anything to go wrong with it been someone elses work. However I soon overcame that feeling and trusted myself with what i was doing. This took up most of the afternoon as there was quite a lot of cutting to do.

First day as a third year assistant.

Today was the first day where I became a third year assistant. I was really excited and intrigued into what tasks I would be set. I feel that this is going to be a really positive experience as we are able to gain and insight into what we should expect from our final year at college.
Unfortunately the third year I was meant to be working with today was ill, so I was paired up with another third year. I was paired with a student on Pathway B, which is the route I hopefully intend to follow. During the day she had complete a variety of tasks-

TASKS: Basic things such as photocopying line ups, going shopping to buy various things such as hook and eyes, Zips etc.

Once completing these tasks she then gave me a brief talk about her collection and her inspiration for her work. I found this really interesting as she had designed garments based around sportswear using fabrics such as neoprene. Her work was really influential and completely different to anything I would design which was really interesting as I learnt more about new fabrics and Ideas.

Maching Orders Trend

Marc Jacobs

John Galliano

Haider Ackermann

Charlotte Ronson

Aquilano Rimondi
I researched into the military trend which is really interesting so I am going to use this as one of my four key trends. I found these images which will inspire me in some way. I chose different style garments to gain a variety of ideas that I may use in my designs. I really like the military colour palette which consists of lots of beiges, browns, Khakis, Black and cream colours as well as use of studs, buttons and large pockets.

Beauty Photography!!

I find these images really interesting. I like how the make is done and also I like the poses and expressions of the models. I could conisder doing something like this for my beauty shots.

I love the drastic makeup, the colours work really well together, I find Luke Duval really inspirational.

Working with family :)

For my photography work I decided that I wanted to capture a range of images, so i thought that it would be both challenging and quite special to photograph someone that is close to me. I always think baby photos are really cute so i attempted to capture some good pictures of my baby cousin aged 7months old. The reason why I chose to do this was that i couldnt direct or tell her what to do so it was purely down to me and my ability to be able to capture a shot within seconds. Here are my most successful photos I took, im really quite proud of them because i have never done photography like this before.
